We spend a lot of time perfecting our skill sets. Communications professionals must read, write and, ultimately makes sense of corporate activities that take place throughout the organization. In some ways, we’re like the lawyers: we see everything that’s happening. (Does the similarity stop there?)

But what about “how” we do our jobs? What is our level of EI or emotional intelligence? (See www.Danielcoleman.info)  It’s not enough to execute the plan if everyone you have worked with along the way is upset when the project ends – even if it has surpassed expectations in terms of measurable results. (How will the second project go?)

Communications professionals need to be skilled in both technical intelligence and emotional intelligence. Yes, it might not be fair, but it’s true: it requires a lot more.

Lets talk about the tough organizational issues, the personalities and the politics – you’ll be better off for it.
